The primitive structure dates back to 1075, but the façade as it is was modified in 1463. The two majestic towers are original only in their lower part. The right tower was modified in 1532 by the council, that had the belfry window carried out, and also obtained the bishops permission to put a clock in it. The left one was the true belfry, and originally had a three-mullioned window on three.

Pienza, Tuscany is super popular on the gram and for good reason. It has the best Val d'Orcia views of all the towns in Tuscany!. I grabbed a coffee at Sperone Nudo which is right outside Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta, Pienza's cathedral. This is an awesome spot to people-watch and just enjoy the sights of Pienza. Pienza Cathedral, the Cattedrale dell'Assunta dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is one of the highlights of Pienza and a UNESCO listed site. It's a harmonious Renaissance building with elements of Late Gothic, which boasts some impressive 15th century paintings by artists of the Sienese school.

Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta (Duomo di Pienza) Cathedral of Pienza stands on the site of the ancient parish church of Santa Maria but, oriented in a different way, was designed to be placed scenically in the main square of the town, Piazza Pio II, and was built by Pope Pius II Piccolomini between the 1459 and 1462 by Bernardo Rossellino.

The Cathedral Santa Maria Assunta better known as Cathedral of Pienza is located in the city center of Pienza next to Palazzo Borgia and Palazzo Piccolomini. The complex rises on the ancient Pieve si Santa Maria.It was built by Bernardo Rossellino commissioned by Pius II.

The Pienza Duomo stands on a site where the ancient parish church of Santa Maria used to be in Pope Pius II's home village of Corsignano. The Duomo is conveniently located just next to the Palazzo Piccolomini, the residence of the Piccolomini family.
